UK Benefits Cap

January 22, 2012

Where are the voices supporting the low paid working households with children, paying council tax, childcare costs and rents disproportionately inflated by housing benefit?

The Bishops/Lords appear so far removed from reality when they can equate £500/week for economically inactive households with poverty. Reform is long overdue, benefits must be streamlined and the cap must be linked to the minimum wage not an inflated ‘average’ salary figure. No parents should be expected to work full time for an income lower than those on benefit. Landlords must be actively discouraged from abusing the benefits system and pricing working parents out of the market.
